Where Virginia meets Tennessee, this lodge features eight large picture windows overlooking South Holston Lake surrounded by mountainous Cherokee National Forest. It has a boat dock in the lake allowing for swimming from the boat dock. South Holston Lake is a pristine lake with incredible mountain views. It is a fairly new house with a newly constructed wood deck that surrounds the house, nice walkways and located near Laurel Marina Dock. It comes with foosball, telescope, keyboard synthesizer, miniature pool table, 500 x 500 swimming cove. The house overlooks the lake at the Rt. 421 Bridge with easy access to Abingdon and Bristol Raceway. A Sea Eagle rubber canoe is available for use. If you have your own boat or jet ski, the dock is available to you. The lake has great off-season fishing and hunting. Any person having problem with steps will need to check this out before renting (over forty steps to main floor). Four deck areas, captain's deck, star deck, port deck and aft deck all connected with steps and bridges for easy circular movement. The lodge is well furnished from kitchen to bath. You bring the food only.
Activities near this 26 mile long lake include: boating, jet skiing, canoeing, white water rafting, skiing, fishing, games, relaxing, hiking on Appalachian Trail, Bristol Motor Speedway, Fantasy in Lights, Barter and Paramount Theaters, Bristol Caverns, mountain climbing, Dollywood, Tinseltown, National Forest, pioneer history sites, lake swimming, boat renting, horse back riding, caving, movies and Big Tom's in Saltville, VA. In September there is a country music festival called Rhythm and Roots setup for September 13 - 16, 2002.
Bristol is a city split between Virginia and Tennessee. It is known for the original birthplace of country music and the Brisol Motor Speedway. Unknown to most outsiders is the wonderful lake. Cherokee National Foreset surrounds most of the lake. The lake is good for fishing, it has bass, crappy, catfish and trout if you are so licensed and skilled.
Day trips from Bristol are Abingdon (19 miles), Cumberland Gap (100 miles), Roan Mountain (60 miles), North Carolina ski areas, Gatlinburg, Asheville, North Carolina, Nolichucky River Rafting (40 miles), Saltville (Big Tom from "Survivor), Dixie Pottery (13 miles). Numerous historic sites for day tripping are close by. Not to mention wonderful state parks and mountains to drive up (Whitetop Mountain is open to vehicles). This area has an abundance of mountain views and drives that are undiscovered by the non-locals. Views are much better when leaves are off trees in off season but the lake gets exciting in summer with the activities and nice lake beaches. Beds: 1 queen, 1 full, 2 twin, 2 sleeper sofa.
