Near Burnsville, Rivermont Cottage is located only 2 1/2 hours drive from Charlotte, 1 hour from Asheville and 3 1/2 hours from Knoxville in the Mt. Mitchell Golf Course Community. The community is located just 2 miles off the Blue Ridge Parkway at NC80. Click the 'Mt. Mitchell Area' link for a map. The Mt. Mitchell area offers peace, quiet, fresh air and views if you just want to relax. And when you're done relaxing, play a round of golf at the Mt. Mitchell Golf Course, rated 4 1/2 stars by Golf Digest and consistently ranked in the top ten courses of North Carolina. Try your hand at trout fishing in the pristine South Toe River. Go tubing at the Carolina Hemlocks Park. Hike to see nearby waterfalls, including Roaring Fork, Setrock Creek and Crabtree Meadows. Shop for pottery, gems and glassware created by local artisans. Climb the observation tower at Mount Mitchell, the highest point east of the Mississippi River at 6,684 feet. Try bicycling on the Blue Ridge Parkway, just 2 miles away. Roaring Fork Falls: You'll be staying less than a mile from these breathtaking falls. If you're feeling ambitious, you can walk to the forestry station ('Busick Work Camp'). Or you can park your car there and walk the gently sloping 1/2 mile path to Roaring Fork Falls. Bring a picnic and pick some wildflowers! Mt. Mitchell Golf Course: An easy walk from where you'll be staying, this is a beautiful, surprisingly flat mountain course that follows the flow of the South Toe River. The across-the-river holes are especially challenging at Mt. Mitchell, consistently rated one of the top ten courses in North Carolina. Visit Burnsville's town square for shopping & dining.
