Designer's, four-story, village townhouse with a fourth-floor, garden terrace and a superb view. This charming, 18th century house has just been completely restored from top to bottom and has all the amenities for your holiday stay in Haute Provence. You will find two complete kitchens, one on the first floor with a dining room with stone walls, a handsome stone arch, and a living room with a fireplace when needed. The other, a summer kitchen on the fourth floor, just inside the furnished outdoor terrace with barbecue, and inside a lovely dining area. Both splendid places to have all your meals accompanied by local wines in the warm months while enjoying mountain views and the most spectacular sunsets anywhere. There are two handsome new bathrooms, one with a large tiled walk-in shower, the other with a tub and shower. Two independent toilets with sinks... and paintings. Three charming bedrooms, two with antique beds, and there's a fourth sleeping area on the balcony overlooking a second two-story living room with a wonderful view of the historic Citadel above. This spacious and elegant house is completely furnished with 18th and 19th century French and American antiques and paintings. Once the home of Dufy, Forcalquier is a lovely historic town founded in the 11th century, and still famous for its lively and diverse Mon. market, as well as its friendly international community. Five minutes from the house are several cafes with outdoor terraces, two butchers, four boulangeries, a news dealer, art galleries, antique shops, restaurants, and a variety of other useful shops. The southern Alps can be seen from many angles and other historic mountain villages are minutes away... as well as excellent vineyards. Forcalquier in the Alpes-de-Haute Provence is located on N100, about 60 miles east of Avignon and is convenient to fantastic Marseille, Aix, Apt, Menerbes, L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, and two-and-one-half hours from Nice. It is one hour 15 minutes to the Marseille airport and one hour to the Aix TVG station. See Peter Mayle's 'Encore Provence' for more details of life in Forcalquier and Provence.
